IAAP President’s Letter to Membership December 2016

IAAP President’s Letter to Membership December 2016

Dear Colleagues,

As this year is coming to a close, I would like to take this time of transition to the New Year to look back at the events within the IAAP over the past year, in particular the decisions reached by the Delegates at the Congress in Kyoto. This also provides an ideal opportunity to take a look at the forthcoming New Year for our Association as well as for Analytical Psychology worldwide. My contribution to the Newssheet, which you will be receiving in the next few days, contains at least in part similar information. The overlap is to ensure that all our members are informed about these matters. While the Newssheet is only in English, this letter from the President is translated into the five official languages of the IAAP.

First, I would like to greet you all in my role as the new President of the IAAP. In Kyoto I had the honour of taking over the presidency from my valued predecessor Tom Kelly and with that the responsibility for our Association. It is a great privilege for me and I am delighted. However, it is of course also a challenge that after three years as President-elect I look forward to with pleasure but also with respect.

Jungian International Training Zurich

Dear Friends of Jungian Psychology,

As 2016 draws to a close, I would like to invite you to consider a year-end donation to ISAPZURICH through its educational and fundraising arm, the Jungian International Training in Zurich foundation (JITZ). We rely on support of friends like you who understand the Jungian approach to psychotherapy and its understanding of individuals and culture. The steadfast goal of JITZ is to help train leaders to carry this work forward into the next generation.

ISAPZURICH is unique. Located in the city where Jungian psychology was born, it attracts students from all over the world to engage in intense daily study, classes and supervision. The faculty honors and teaches the understanding of Jung, adding new insights developed from Jung’s original work. ORGANISED BY FEGAP (Finnish Estonian Group for Analytical Psychology)

“In all cases of dissociation it is therefore necessary to integrate the unconscious into consciousness. This is a synthetic process which I have termed the individuation process.” C. G. Jung

We invite you to participate at a gathering on the Baltic shores aimed at a deeper exploration of C.G. Jung’s conceptualization of dissociation, seen not only as a pathological phenomenon but as a function of the normal psyche and a way to individuation. The dissociation between the conscious and the unconscious mind is a central theme in C. G. Jung’s work. According to Jung the main therapeutic issue is how to integrate the dissociation both on personal and on a collective level. Those parts of us that are dissociated and/or projected out, often find their target in other individuals different from us. How we relate to the strange or to the stranger, outside of us and inside of us, both individually and collectively, is one of the focuses of the Summer Camp 2017. We also seek to discuss topics, such as immigration, nationalism and hatred in Scandinavia, post-Soviet trauma in Baltic countries, and clinical questions concerning “being a strangers to ourselves” (Julia Kristeva) and dissociation in relation to trauma (Donald Kalsched), to depression, to climate change, and so on.

The Summer Camp is intended to Jungian analysts, trainees, students, psychotherapists, and for everyone interested.

In addition to academic papers, we invite participants to offer workshops.
